Jienna Basaldu

A Northern California native, Jienna now calls Arizona home. She has over two decades of hospitality experience and began her journey as a sommelier after obtaining her Bachelor’s in Business Marketing from California State University Chico in 2009.  Jienna is a Certified Specialist of Wine, French Wine Scholar, Spanish Wine Scholar, and Advanced Sommelier through the Court of Master Sommeliers. She is currently pursuing the rigorous Master Sommelier Diploma. Jienna was a sommelier at Michelin-starred Angler and the 2020 James Beard Outstanding Wine Program Nominee The Morris in San Francisco. While at the San Francisco Wine School, Jienna taught courses such as Somm Essentials and Spanish Wine Scholar. She managed wine programs at noted Sacramento establishments Ella Dining Room & Bar, 58 Degrees & Holding Co., and the historic Sutter Club.  Jienna enjoys sommelier competitions and in 2017 won the SommFoundation Luxicon Blind Tasting, was the 2018 GuildSomm Top Chilean Sommelier, the first female winner of the Star Chefs Somm Slam in 2019 and won the Alto Adige Top Somm Competition in 2020. When she is not studying, tasting, or traveling the wine regions of the world, she uses her skills for good, volunteering for Meals on Wheels, Auction Napa Valley, and The Jameson Animal Rescue.
